Rowing boats are always popular along Christianshavn's historic canals, while tourists often prefer to board a guided boat tour around Copenhagen Harbour (Kobenhavns Havn), or take a bus tour around the city, usually starting at the Radhuspladsen and passing sights around Christiansborg.

Most guided bus tours also head to the extremely popular Tivoli Amusement Park. Here for will find endless family orientated tourist attractions, extremely close to central Copenhagen. Other highlights include the floorless looping Demon roller coaster (Daemonen), Dragon Boat Lake, and the Star Flyer carousel (Himmelskibet), which stands at 80 metres / 262 feet high and is the tallest carousel ride currently in existence.

When the Danish sunshine comes out during the summer months, crowds of tourists head to the suburb of Gentofte and its pretty beaches. This is a great spot to both sunbathe, swim, sail, kayak and play beach games, such as volleyball, and is particularly close to Dyrehaven. Many stylish houses overlook the beachfront and provide a pleasant backdrop, along with wooded areas.

Located on the northerly outskirts of Copenhagen and within the suburb of Gentofte, Denmark's Aquarium, known locally as the Danmarks Akvarium, is a popular family attraction and the largest of its kind in the whole country, dating back to the late 1930s. In total; there are around 70 different aquariums, housing a total of almost 90,000 litres of water and an enormous collection of fish, both fresh water and marine. The giant turtles and sharks are always a favourite, along with landscape coral reefs, seahorses, puffer fish, regular feeding demonstrations, and the Café Danmarks Akvarium, which provides refreshments whilst also offering views across the beach and forest areas.

A watery city with an extensive coastline and many interconnecting canals, Copenhagen Harbour has been used for hundreds of years as one of Denmark's leading commercial ports. The city's harbour lends itself to a range of recreational activities and many tourists choose to visit to take one of its many boat trips or canal tours, which take in many waterfront sights and attractions, including both Amalienborg Palace and Christiansborg Castle. Important areas of the harbour include the outer Frihavnen docks, and the historic Nyhavn docks, which were created in the latter part of the 17th century and lead into the very heart of the city. Many harbourside shops and restaurants add to the atmosphere.

One of Europe's most historic zoos, Copenhagen was established around 150 years ago and its collection of animal attractions has grown considerably since its conception. Now home to more than 3000 different animals, covering around 250 species, the city's zoological gardens play an important part in many conservation projects and the zoo is currently home to creatures such as elephants, rhinos, zebras, bears, camels, penguins and monkeys. The younger ones will appreciate the petting zoo and its friendly rabbits and inquisitive mountain goats.

Opening in the summer of 1843, when it was names Tivoli and Vauxhall, and remaining popular ever since, crowds of Copenhagen tourists flock to the Tivoli Amusement Park each year, to enjoy the fast rides and fun attractions. Look out for the historic Mountain Track wooden roller coaster (Rutsjebanen), which was built in 1914 and remains in good condition today. With dozens of restaurants and bars, along with summer concerts, a Chinese theatre, a beautiful Glass Hall and landscaped gardens, there is plenty here to fill your day.

Located on the southerly side of the Sankt Jorgens So and opened towards the end of 1989, the Tycho Brahe Planetarium is a striking building and one of Copenhagen's most beautiful waterfront attractions, being instantly recognisable by it column shape and dramatic sloping roof. Inside, tourists will be treated to a host of attractions, including a large IMAX theatre and regular star shows, where more than 4,000 stars are projected onto the ceiling of the auditorium.
