Everyone visiting Copenhagen should make time on their itinerary to visit at least one or two art galleries - there are so many to choose from! Also worth noting is the annual art festival, ART Copenhagen, which takes place each year in late September and attracts almost 40 galleries from around Denmark and also Sweden.

Located within the 17th-century complex of Charlottenborg Palace, the Royal Danish Academy of Art is known for its many visiting exhibitions, while nearby the Kunstakademiets Udstillingssted is also worth a look. Many Danish artists regularly exhibit their works at Copenhagen's Kunstforeningen (International Art Gallery) on Gammel Strand and this appealing venue enjoys impressive views across the canal and also Christiansborg.




A range of contemporary art works in to be found at the Malerisamlingen Ordrupgard (Museum of Modern Art), in Copenhagen's Norrebro area. Although this gallery is fairly small inside, the contents are outstanding and include many 20th-century Danish paintings, together with more classical French impressionist pieces.

Famous artists are almost commonplace within the Statens Museum for Kunst (State Museum of Art), in central Copenhagen, such as Picasso, Rembrandt, Rubens and Titian, to name but a few.
